Overview
During the COVID-19 shutdown, this may be a good opportunity to become familiar with and continue your work remotely with some of the CNF's great software tools. Please keep in mind when working remotely that software licensing seats are shared among the whole CNF community. And some software is only available for academic research.
Getting Started
To get started, please contact CNF Computing . Please include your name, NetID or GuestID, institution, CNF project, academic or commercial purpose, and which software.
Howto Login
You will remotely login to the CNF Thin service via the Cornell VPN using a special CNF Thin group VPN pool.
- Download the ThinLinc client for your operating system.
- Down the Cisco AnyConnect client for your operating system.
- Connect to the CNF Thin group VPN pool as netid_or_guestid@RS-CNF-VPN-Thin (case sensitive) along with your netid or guestid password.
- In the installed ThinLinc client, set your preferred screen size:
- Click "Options"
- Click the "Screen" tab
- Choose your preferred screen size
- Make sure "Resize remote session to the local window" is checked
- With the installed ThinLinc client, connect to
Server: desktop-k.cnf.cornell.edu
Username: netid_or_guestid
Password: your netid or guestid password - To disconnect your session, press 'F8' and choose "Disconnect" - just as you would from a CNF Thinstation in the facility.
- Disconnect the Cisco AnyConnect VPN.
