CFD Flocculation Tank 3D Simulation Meeting Minutes
Spring 2009 Minutes
March 6, 2009
Accomplishments
- Read the FLUENT documentation on parallel computing and remote executing
- Worked on finer mesh and boundary layers
- Literature research on energy dissipation map
- More simulations with 2D Reynolds Stress models
- Simulations comparing old 2D cases and report summaries of parameters setting
Metrics
NA
Outcomes
- Found out the reason caused the difference in the energy dissipation maps: the fluid material property was incorrectly set to air(default)
- Water does gives us longer energy dissipation region
- Lesson from the mistake: keep good documentations on the work that has been done, and organize the data, book keeping parameter settings
- This result should be further confirmed by: 3D modeling with k-epsilon realizable model, Reynolds Stress model
Issues
- There is still no observable speed scale-up with parallel computing
- Need to study FLUENT documentation to get more familiar with Linux and parallel computing and figure out the right commands to use
