I am working on updating the current Demo Plant\ to overcome existing failure modes. The main tasks for the semester are eliminating the flocculator overflow; increasing the capacity of stock tanks to achieve a continuous run time between 15-30 minutes without intervention; and updating the plant frame for ease-of-use during set-up and break-down. Currently we have succeeded in establishing the problems with the current flocculator and have taken substantial steps in fixing those problems. We have ordered a new flocculator to replace the current leaking one, and brainstormed a number of different frame configurations to replace the current un-sturdy one. We have calculated the necessary pipe lengths for realistic head loss and error rates, that correspond to a real plant, which was not done in previous designs.
