Drain Channel Design Program

The purpose of the drain channel is to handle all of the flow of the plant in the event that the entire plant is filled to capacity with water in all components. In this case, if the plant needs to be drained, all the valves in the sedimentation tank and flocculator empty into the drain channel.

There is a flow rate constraint on the design of the drain channel. The channel must be designed so that it can handle a maximum flow rate equal to the sum of the flow rates out of the drain valves in the sedimentation tanks and the flocculator.

Q_DChannel=ΣQ_SedValves+ΣQ_FlocValves

Design Assumptions

Geometric constraints used in the design come from some basic assumptions. The depth of the drain channel at the beginning of the flocculator is equal to one half the head loss at the end opposite end of the drain channel.
