Gang,
Simeon hasn't committed to come to our lunch next Wednesday to talk with us about PIDs in OAI-PMH. We can discuss it ourselves. There's a paragraph or two about identifiers at http://www.openarchives.org/OAI/2.0/openarchivesprotocol.htm#UniqueIdentifier. While you're reading it, keep in mind that a "record" is an OAI metadata record, while a "resource" is the digital object the record describes.

How about we flesh this out with The PURL-based Object Identifier (POI), http://www.ukoln.ac.uk/distributed-systems/poi/, which is meant to work on OAI servers, and "Introduction to PURLs", http://purl.oclc.org/docs/inet96.html

All of this prints out to about 10 pages.
