Print Cornellian:

Cornell yearbooks are shelved in the Dean Room of Uris Library, and in the Olin Library stacks (6th floor) at LD1387 .C81 ++

Print copies can also be found in the Library Annex, Mann Library, and in the Rare and Manuscript Collections.

During special events such as Reunion, print copies of the Cornellian are regularly moved to a more accessible location such as in or near the Reference Collection.

Many copies are on-site use only.

  • First, ask if the patron has a specific year that they are looking for. Some locations have gaps in their coverage.
  • Assess the patron's accessibility needs. Some patrons may have difficulty navigating/accessing the stacks in Olin. We recommend patrons visit the copies in Rare and Manuscript in this case.
  • Offer digitized editions if patron is unsure of the exact year an alum graduated (see below under "How to use the digitized Cornellian")
  • Offer assistance from the Reference Desk staff.

Digitized Cornellian:

Many years of the Cornellian have been digitized and are stored on HathiTrust. To access them, follow the link to HathiTrust on the catalog record (the link is under "Availability" on the righthand side of the screen).
Nearly all copies are digitized and have been placed in the public domain. Items in the public domain can be accessed online anywhere, and do not need library credentials to access. Most of this access is pre-1977.

The advantage of digitized copies is that they can be full-text searched. This will assist patrons in locating the correct volumes/years, as well as finding the correct page an alum appears on.
Select a yearbook to view on HathiTrust. On the lefthand side of the screen there is a "Search in this text" tool. Entering a name (or other keyword) will show you a list of pages that term appears on.

Remember to use quotation marks to search for the exact phrase. ("John Smith" will find all instances of those two words in that order. Without the quotations you will find pages in with both John AND Smith appear)

Many yearbook entries use initials for first names. When searching, try to start with a last name and sift through results from there.

"Search Only" yearbooks on HathiTrust can still be useful. The results of the search will show the pages that the terms appear on. Note these down and then go to the print copies to locate the correct pages.
