License and Version history

  • July 2018: Cornell Library committed to a 3 year license
  • Apr 4, 2018: ChemDraw Professional v17.1 announced

Installing and using ChemDraw requires both the software and a license key

  • Note 1: Unlike before, the key provided by the vendor July 2018 will last 3 years. Reduced re-licensing frequencies makes things easier than before.
  • Note 2: Unlike with previous versions of ChemDraw, the license key is the same for both Windows and Mac installations, which makes things easier than before.

You are in the Cornell Chemistry Department

For people in Arts and Sciences Chemistry Department, Chemistry IT is available to support you in using Chemistry IT's potentially easier process developed July 2018.

  • This method is optional for those in the Chemistry Department. Department members may alternatively use the vendor's "regular" method, detailed further below.

1. Download and install the current software for either Windows or Mac from our restricted site.

  • https://cornell.box.com/v/ChemDraw (hosted by Chemistry IT and restricted to Cornell community members)
    • The *.exe file is for installing on a Windows computer.
    • The *. dmg file is for installing on a Mac.

2. During the installation, use the license key also available from our restricted site.

  • https://cornell.box.com/v/ChemDraw (hosted by Chemistry IT and restricted to Cornell community members)
    • The *. txt file contains the activation code for both Windows and Mac installations.

You are outside the Chemistry Department

Anyone outside of the Chemistry Department should follow the vendor's standard process.

To assist you, we have created a summary of the that process below, developed by starting at the vendor's Institutional Subscriptions look-up site, <http://sitesubscription.cambridgesoft.com/>.

1. Create an account at the vendor's new (as of April 2018) software distribution service

Register with the vendor using your Cornell University email address:

https://gallery.cambridgesoft.com/register.html?FlexeraAccountId=2412SL

  • Note: This new system is not related to vendor's previous software distribution registration system which you may have used before.

2. Use that account to download the required software and obtain the license key.

  • Note: Unlike with versions of ChemDraw, the license key is the same for both Windows and Mac installations.
