This document is a DRAFT.

The Cloud Team maintains a contract with Linux Academy for training on cloud technologies, DevOps, and related topics. Cornell staff and faculty are invited to request access to a seat for training. Many Cornell folks have found this to be an effective way to learn new technologies.

Training Topics

Linux Academy offers 1,200 hours of all-you-can-eat video content as well as labs to get hands-on training. Major training categories include:

  • Cloud Providers
    • AWS
    • Azure
    • Google Cloud Platform
  • Linux
  • DevOps
  • Containers
  • OpenStack
  • BigData

Linux Academy also offers training specifically designed to help you achieve various certificates (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect).

Training Seats

As of December 2017, Cornell maintains a license for 40 training seats that we rotate amongst Cornell faculty and staff. Our policy regarding training seats:

  • Once you have a seat, our policy is to ensure you have at least 3 months with it.
  • After 3 months, we may need to rotate you out of your seat so someone else can use it.
  • When rotating seats, we will prioritize by the date that each person last used Linux Academy.
  • If you keep active on Linux Academy, your chances of being rotated out will be reduced.
  • If necessary, we may add you to a waiting list for initial access to a seat.
  • Depending on demand, we may need to reduce the 3-month period.

We recommend that you take advantage of the free 7-day trial Linux Academy offers to individual users to see if you think Linux Academy will fit your learning style. If so, then request a seat from us.

To request a seat, email cloud-support@cornell.edu. Provide the following information with your request:

  • Name
  • Netid
  • Unit
  • Learning objectives (e.g., want to learn Ansible)
