Formatting type

The type styles in the design system have been predefined for a consistent, usable experience across pages. For that reason, it is best not to override type styles such as font family, size or color. Inline styles not only throw off the system, they can also break layouts if the global styles of the site change later.

Instead, whether you are using Wordpress’s visual content editors or HTML tags, it is best to define type by its semantic purpose--headlines, bold, italic, links--and let the system style it on the front end.

If you are expanding the site and need to add new styles, Typekit’s documentation includes how to reference Typekit fonts in CSS.
