Subject: Notes on renewing Microsoft Imagine
Hi Oliver,
Thought you might appreciate a summary of the process for renewing Microsoft Imagine, fka Dreamspark.
You will receive a notification 45 days before your subscription expires. According to the documentation, you have up to 30 days after expiry to renew your subscription. If you let that grace period lapse, you have to apply as a new user.
Log into your onthehub account, go to the Subscriptions tab, click on the “renew it” link.
Technically, this goes to the same place as the “to get a new one” link: https://imagine.microsoft.com/en-us/institutions/Enroll
You need to log into a Microsoft account (possibly with the same email that controls the Microsoft Imagine account?).
Click the "Enroll Or Renew” button.
Choose the "No, I am renewing a subscription”, and enter your name and Subscriber ID. Subscriber ID is, as you might expect, the identifier for your subscription. NB: It’s _not_ the CU license number. Confusingly, Onthehub and Microsoft call this identifier different things. In the onthehub.com Webstore, under “Subscriptions”, it’s listed as “Agreement Number”. On my.visualstudio.com, under “Subscriptions”, “Support Information”, you’ll see it as “Subscriber ID”.
This is an eligibility verification - if the details don’t match an active subscription, it won’t let you progress to the next step.
Next step is entering the institution information. This does use the Cornell license number. Obviously, use your own department details.
Choose your subscription.
Enter the CU Premium promo code.
Applying the promo code should reduce the price to free. You can then complete the Checkout as usual.
I received a notification that they were verifying my request, and that I should receive a “Welcome Email” within the week - it arrived the next day. You activate the subscription by logging into my.visualstudio.com, but the subscription renewal also updates on the onthehub webstore.
Hope that helps - feel free to use this for documentation on Sharepoint.
