Charge

The Cornell University Library (CUL) Metadata Working Group was formed in 2001 as an open forum for all staff to discuss metadata issues facing the library. Ross Atkinson established the following charge for the group:

The Metadata Working Group serves as an open forum for all interested CUL staff to learn about and to discuss information on all issues relating to metadata. Specifically, the purpose of the group will be:

  • To exchange information about metadata and its application to all library functions; this exchange will include information about uses of metadata in CUL, as well as information about broader metadata developments, nationally and internationally.
  • To provide an opportunity for feedback on the potential and the impact of intended developments or uses of metadata in CUL.
  • To make recommendations on policy decisions relating to metadata that need to be made by CUL.

The agenda for the Working Group will be set by the Steering Committee, the members of which will rotate every two years.

Steering Committee

The Steering Committee plans the agenda for the open forums of the Metadata Working Group. We encourage forum attendees to propose agenda topics and speakers to any member of the Steering Committee. The members for 2015-2016 are:

Dianne Dietrich (Co-Chair) - Physics & Astronomy Librarian

Erica Johns - Research Data & Environmental Sciences Librarian

Wendy Kozlowski - Data Curation Specialist

In July 2004, the committee issued a Report of the Activities of the Steering Committee of the Metadata Working Group, 2001-2004.
