ChemBioDraw licensing reminders
As of 7/3/13:
- You must renew your ChemBioDraw license to continue using the software, and this is technologically enforced. Thus, you must renew it to keep the software running.
- A single license will cover you for all the computers for which the individual is the primary user. The faculty member's single license covers the faculty member's computer as well as all the group's common shared computers. If the faculty member provides you a computer and you are the primary user of the computer, you have to purchase a license as you are not covered by the faculty member's license.
- Each and every user needs to purchase their own license on their own. We in ChemIT can't purchase it for you.
- If you are a faculty member or lecturer who wants the instructional budget to pay for the license for you, please talk to the Chemistry Business Office for the appropriate account number. Note that you will still need to place the order yourself.
- If you are a graduate student, postdoc, research associate, etc. please work with your faculty member and/or the Chemistry Business Office to determine the appropriate account number if not required to purchase it with you own personal funds.
Chemistry IT does not control the Cornell Store's service to license the program, but we're happy to share what we know (above info). For more information, we encourage you to contact the Cornell Store at TCLicensing@cornell.edu.
Annual process can be confusing
Here is info we sent to CCB 7/3/13 regarding annual renewal/ ordering process:
There is continued and understandable confusion on how to obtain and/or renew your ChemBioDraw licenses for the 2013-2014 year. The Cornell Store runs the license program and they are responsible for selling the software to you and answering most questions. You can contact them at TCLicensing@cornell.edu.
We in ChemIT recognize the current process is a hassle and will continue to advocate for improvements. In the meantime, here are some important notes:
- This latest request from the Campus Store regarding ChemBioDraw licensing is a pre-order stage. They do this to determine pricing based on expressed interest for the new licensing year. In this case, you are committing to purchasing the license for the year if the cost ends up at $70 or less. Once pricing if confirmed, your account will be charged at the finalized price and the new licensing information for the 2013-2014 year will be provided.
- Pre-ordering saves a few dollars over renewing/ ordering later, if past years are any indication.
- The pre-ordering deadline is this coming Monday (7/8/13), presumably by 5pm.
- This pre-order process is only for those who will be paying for this software with Cornell account number funds. If you wish to purchase the license with your own personal funds, you will have to wait until the pricing is settled. You will then be able to obtain the license from the Cornell Store website.
- To pre-order, you need to go to <https://licensing.store.cornell.edu/Products/895-chembiodraw-ultra-2013-14-pre-order.aspx>, login with your own Cornell netid and netid password, and follow the directions. The process will include you creating a Cornell Store licensing account which is separate from your NetID. This is a requirement of the Cornell Store's service.
