PerkinElmer markets three suites with the word "Ultra" in their names. This may explain the continued confusion by folks communicating about their products!
There are significant differences between "ChemBio3D Ultra" (what is currently being licensed by the Library- thank you!) and "ChemBioDraw Ultra", which is the product some folks (and web sites) at the Library keep stating they licensed (see forwarded announcement, below).
ChemIT's characterization of the naming and licensing issues, as of Dec. 2013
PerkinElmer markets three suites with the word "Ultra" in their names. This may explain the continued confusion by folks communicating about their products!
See PDF, "PerkinElmer Informatics Desktop Suites Comparison", for the comparison choices ChemIT selected using PerkinElmer's (as of Dec 2013) official comparison page:
- http://compare.cambridgesoft.com/CompareSuites.aspx (broken link, as of 5/12/14; see PDF, above)
Note: The above site is not as handy as the PDF PerkinElmer made available before, but that document was from 2012. And a current version of that one-page handout is apparently no longer being provided by PerkinElmer.
From left-to-right on the attached PDF, we have:
(1) What the Library has communicated it has licensed (ChemBioDraw Ultra 13.0 Suite). This is the product we've had access to for many years, until recently.
(2) What the Library is actually licensing today (ChemBio3D Ultra 13.0 Suite). Thank you!
(3) What CCB licensed under duress (ChemDraw Std 13.0 Suite), Fall 2013.
Hopefully the Library's information (on its blog and in its catalog records) will have the product name match the licensing to reduce confusion and prevent unpleasant surprises. (In winter 2013, at least, both locations currently state CUL has licensed ChemBioDraw Ultra, which is simply not correct.) The most recent communications from the Library (below) was initially very confusing to Oliver, and he thought that it may be confusing to others.
We in Chemistry remain very appreciative of the Library's efforts to help Chemistry researchers by investing in this software!
