The goal of the Cornell University Library's Large-Scale Digitization Initiative is to convert the Library's print collection into digital form in support of the library's long-standing commitment to make its collections broadly available.  The focus of the partnership with Microsoft is on public domain materials and involves English language monographs during its first phase.   Through this initiative, users worldwide will be able use Live Book Search to locate and read books from Cornell University Library's outstanding collections regardless of where they reside in the world.
