Replace "Group" with your group's name.

For assistance, please contact <ChemIT@cornell.edu>. Thank you!

Notes

Note 1: Off-campus use requires the use of a VPN. (No VPN required for on-campus use, including use via RedRover.)

Note 2: Domain is "Cornell". So will look like:

/cornell/NetID

You will need to know this when using your personal computer, for example. (A CCB computer set up by ChemIT already knows the domain name.)

Note 3: Make a shortcut of the file share folder you need. Or, Map a Network Drive, per CIT's recommendation, below.

Note 4: If using Map a Network Drive, we recommend "standardizing" the drive letter to "W:\". This will facilitate talking about this share among research group members.

Info from CIT

The share you requested from Shared File Services has been configured.

Your CIFS share is accessible through the campus DFS (Distributed File System) service at:

\\files.cornell.edu\AS\CHM*Group* using Windows

smb://files.cornell.edu/AS/CHM/Group using Mac OS 10.7 (Lion).

For older clients which don't support DFS (such as Mac OS 10.6 and below) your CIFS share may be accessed via a DNS CNAME (note: The DNS CNAME may take up to an hour to take effect).

\\as-chm-group.files.cornell.edu\as-chm-group for older Windows

smb://as-chm-group.files.cornell.edu/as-chm-group for OS 10.6 and below

By Mapping A Network Drive you can easily see that total/free/used capacities of the share.

Please consult the 'How To...' or 'Frequently Asked Questions' on our website if you have further questions: http://www.it.cornell.edu/services/sharedfile/

Thank you!
