Summary

In Nick's area, ChemIT is responsible for IT support for:

  • 2 MatLab computers
  • 1 Faculty room computer

Other info

2 Library computers
308A

Convert to public kiosks. Continue running Win7.
Set up auto-login to a generic user-level account.
Primary support, including: Initial image and configuration, troubleshooting, upgrading software, and reimaging if broken.
Responsible for following IT policies in configuration.

Nick has Admin access to make changes directly, and is responsible for changes made.
If ChemIT reimages the computer, Nick can either let us know of the changes, or re-do them if they are still necessary.

Nick's office computer
308C

With Nick's invitation, we can recommend replacement hardware, procure hardware, initially set up OS and default applications, as PhyIT's schedule permits. PhysIT doing these things can save Nick time and aggravation.

Notes

  • Some best practices include: All use of computers is at the user-level, not as Admin. Use Admin account to elevate privileges within the user account or to temporarily login as Admin to make the necessary changes. Don't establish shares.
  • If computers PhysIT is responsible for get messed up somehow, PhysIT will tend to reimage them rather than "work the problem". PhysIT is obviously not responsible for end-user behaviors. :-)
