What services can PhysIT provide to Nick which he would value, and without getting in Nick's way?

Convert to public kiosks.
Set up auto-login to a generic user-level account.
Primary support, including: Initial image and configuration, troubleshooting, upgrading software, and reimaging if broken. Responsible for following IT policies in configuration.

Nick has Admin access to make changes directly, and is responsible for changes made.
If ChemIT reimages the computer, Nick can either let us know of the changes, or re-do them if they are still necessary.

Convert to public kiosks with MatLab.
Set up auto-login to a generic user-level account.
Primary support, including: Initial image and configuration, troubleshooting, upgrading software, and restoration. Responsible for following IT policies in configuration.

If ChemIT reimages the computer, Nick can either let us know of the changes, or re-do them if they are still necessary.

Users login to their own account using their own NetIT credentials, providing them User-level access.

By Nick's invitation, we can recommend hardware, procure hardware, initially set up OS and default applications, if time permits. Us doing these things can save Nick time and aggravation.

Notes

  • Some best practices include: All use of computers is at the user-level, not as Admin. Use Admin account to elevate privileges within the user account or to temporarily login as Admin to make the necessary changes. Don't establish shares.
  • If computers PhysIT is responsible for get messed up somehow, PhysIT will tend to reimage them rather than "work the problem". PhysIT is obviously not responsible for end-user behaviors. :-)
