Course recommendations for M.Eng. students interested in materials, solid mechanics or structural mechanics

What is "solid mechanics"?
• The mechanics and physics of materials
• Mechanics of structures and solid mechanics,
• Computational science and statistical mechanics & physics
• Analytical, experimental and computational methods,
• Continuum, multi-scale and non-continuum approaches
• And some materials that are not so "solid"

Course recommendations

Baseline courses:

  • Fundamentals of Structural Engineering (F) - CEE 6710
    or Foundations of Solid Mechanics I (F) - MAE 6110/TAM 6301
  • Finite elements (F) MAE 5700 or CEE 6720
  • Composite Materials (S) MAE 4550

All students should try to broaden their knowledge of mechanics and materials by studying additional mechanics topics such as dynamics (MAE 5735), or fluid mechanics (MAE 6010), advanced solid mechanics topics (TAM 6550), advanced computational mechanics courses, (CEE 7750), materials science (MSE 6020), or biomedical mechanics (BME 5810, BME/MAE 6640, BME/MAE 5690)
