Here you you find useful information about the CISER service and CCB-specific how-to's.

History of service evaluation

In FY13, we evaluated subscribing to CISER's computing services. We discovered our usage was low that we were allowed be be placed under A&S's subscription, starting July 2013.

Adding any new user does not cost us more. Please use this service if it can help your research!

NOTE: If a research unit within CCB has a project in the future with significant usage requiring additional funding, Oliver is to let CISER know so they can set up a separate account for that project.

Subscription tracker page:

When CCB was a subscriber, Oliver's NetID was authorized to view CCB's data. Now that we're under A&S's subscription (July 1, 2013), Oliver doesn't know who is authorized to see this data. :-)

Software list

CISER's service includes free-to-you access, from your own computer, to Mathmatica, Matlab, and many other software packages:

Run expensive software on CISER's high-end hardware from almost any computer (Windows, Mac, or Linux). All software licensing is pre-paid, and the installation and configuration is maintained by experts.

How to connect, and other vital instructions

First time user information and other connecting information:

To create an account, per CISER's email to CRCF on 3/15/13:

  • Each user must fill out the application located on CISER's web site:
  • As of 8/1/13, the sign-up form has change dramatically from when the below text was written. Thus, use the below text as a guideline only. :-)
  • Indicate your appropriate NetID status. (If you don't have one, indicate that first and read the sub-bullet point below.)
    • In the case when a NetID is not available, CISER will generally use your last name for the account and limit the account activity for the time period you are visiting Cornell, but can extend by request if collaborating further (4/26/13, JanetH). Contact ChemIT if you have any questions or concerns if you fall in this category.
  • Fill out your "Contact Info" and "Academic Info" as appropriate.
  • Under "Type of Account:", select "For Research".
  • Under "Affiliated Faculty:", enter your PI's name (Cornell professor).
  • Under "Faculty Netid:", put down your PI's NetID (Cornell professor).
  • Under the text entry, "Comments, explanation of "other" status, special requirements:", please write, "Add to Chemistry's annual subscription."
This text instructs CISER to assigns your account to CCB's specific subscription.
  • Oliver will be notified when you apply, but you are welcome to let <crcf> know you've applied. :-)

Please do let ChemIT know if you find this service helpful or if you find something that gets in the way of it being a useful service.
