Currently there are the following workflows in the RDA Toolkit:

  • Cornell: Cheat Sheet for Content/Media/Carrier Fields in RDA
  • Cornell: Cheat Sheet for the New Authorities Fields
  • Cornell: Maps workflow
  • Cornell: Photocopies

Here are issues that we need clearer agreement on, or at least documentation justifying Cornell's stand:

  1. Use of 040 $b eng
    1. LC will use $b eng; might be useful for upcoming OCLC projects
  2. Use of 490
    1. Do we still trace series on non-PCC cataloging?
  3. Relationship designators
    1. we're trying to use them, as long as we can choose an appropriate one. Right?
  4. 245 Transcribing author's affiliations
    1. Some are adding affiliations to record, some are not.  Where do we stand?
  5. 500 Add notes like "Poems" or "Short stories" like AACR2
    1. Not spelled out in RDA.
  6. 260 Rules says to add first place mentioned or all.
    1. Do we want a ruling or leave it to cataloger's judgment?  If the second one is in the US, we might want to include?
  7. 500 for Cover Title
    1. Not really spelled out in list of examples in RDA Toolkit
  8. 245 $a Use of capitals
    1. Continue familiar practice, or capitalize first letter of each word or whole word if on piece, or leave up to cataloger?
  9. 040 Order of $e rda in string
    1. Example: 040 __ |a BTCTA |b eng |c BTCTA |d NIC |e rda
    2. Example: 040 __ |a DLC |e rda |b eng |c DLC |d ZYF |d WLL |d NIC
  10. Fixed field -- Use of the Literary Form fixed field.
    1. Do we want to have a policy?
  11. Fixed field -- Audience, not just when the book is juvenile: Adult, Specialized, General.
    1. Do we want to have a policy?
  12. Flowchart for compilations/collaborations
  13. 504 Transcription of unnumbered pages
    1. Follow rule or Stanford's model for unnumbered pages?
    2. Are the following examples correct?
      1. Includes bibliographical references (unnumbered page 100-102). Formerly: (p. [100]-102).

      2. Includes bibliographical references (page 100-unnumbered page102). Formerly: (p. 100-[102]).

      3. Includes bibliographical references (unnumbered page 100-unnumbered page 102). Formerly: (p. [100]-[102])

STANFORD'S ANSWER: We decided to simplify the notes because they are not transcribed information. We plan to give the numbering in notes as if the page numbers actually appeared; we think anyone looking at the resource would be able to count past the last numbered page and find the information. So, for example, our version of your first note would be: "Includes bibliographic references (pages 100-102)." However, the style of such notes in RDA is not prescribed; so, you should decide what you want to do. (14 September 2010)
