A: This is the main menu and contains in order from left to right. Upload This option uploads the currently scanned pages to the server to be displayed.

     Scan Document This option, depending on the setting, will initialize the scanner and scan a printed document. If it set to do so, the TWAIN driver for the scanner may open instead, this provides for better control of the scanner.

     Scan & Insert This option depending on the settings will either initialize the scanner or open the TWAIN driver for the scanner and scan a printed document and insert the pages into already scanned pages.

     Import Image This option allows you to browse your local system and import already digitized images into the scanning application.

     Import File This option will allow you to browse your local computer and upload an already digitized file to the server. Doing this will mark the item as available and close the window.

     Rescan Pages This option is inactive at this time.

     Settings This option contains a sub-menu of items that can be set to control how your scanner will behave. Depending on the scanner attached there may be more or fewer items then what is listed here

           Source This option sets the current scanner being used, if more then one scanner s attached to the system. You can change scanners by clicking the down arrow and selecting the scanner you wish to work with.

           Color can either be set to -
                B&W This option will place the scanner in black and white or binary mode.
                Halftone This option will place the scanner in halftone mode. Halftone is a process in which the scanner simulates gray-scale using varying black and white patterns.
                Gray-scale This option will place the scanner in gray-scale mode.
                Color This option will place the scanner in color mode.

           DPI    This option sets the resolution that the scanner will capture the image at. A normal setting for this is between 150 and 300. Please refer to your local documentation for guidance in this matter.

           Use ADF This option will initialize your scanners ADF, automatic document feeder, for the scanning of loose pages of printed material.

           Duplex This option will, if available on your scanner, activate the duplex function of you ADF. This is for scanning double sided loose leaf printed materials.

           Show TWAIN Dialog This option will open and allow you to use your scanners TWAIN driver and interface, when "Scan Document" is clicked. This option is recommend do to the limited nature of the Ares scanner interface.

B: This is a brief view of the citation for the item that is being scanned. The information displayed here changes based on if the source is a book or journal. All fields that would  make up a full citation are displayed.

C: This panel displays a thumbnail view of all pages that have been scanned. Clicking on a thumbnail will show the full view in panel E.

D: This area is the image manipulation menu. The items are, from top to bottom.

     Select   This option allows you to select and area of an image.
    

     Pan This option allows you to move a zoomed image around the screen to see other areas of that image.

     Crop This option allows you crop an image to a selected area. (This function does not currently work).

     Rotate This option allows you to rotate individual, groups or all of the images either left 90, right 90 or 180.

     Deskew This option will automatically try to straighten the edge of a page so that the text is aligned.

     Best Fit This option will zoom an image in our out to fit the preview panel.

     Zoom This option allows you to zoom in on an image in the preview panel.

     Undo This option undoes the last edit made to the current image.

     Export.. This option is currently not available.

     Delete Pages This option will delete the currently selected page(s) in the thumbnail view pane.

E: This area is the full size preview panel. Any items selected in the thumbnail view will be show full size in this area.
