The Dell 745's (really, really old!) and older (!)  computers are being replaced. Put on hold Dell 755's, and revisit summer 2014.

Why replace these old computers?

  • Replace before they break reduces down-time.
  • It's cheap at $400/ computer that easily lasts more than 4 years (3 years of which it's under warranty).
  • Improve the user's experience, especially as it relates to memory.
    • These systems have 2GB RAM, and upgrading these computer's RAM is surprising expensive: $60-80 to get to 4GB.
  • Can these still-working computers be used more effectively elsewhere in Physics? Who to ask? (Mark/ Vince? Nick? Others?)

Candidate computers

  • Dorothy – Testing center – Optiplex 755 purchased March 26, 2008
  • Deb Hatfield – Optiplex 745 – older than 2008, but I don't have the exact dates as I haven't been able to inventory it yet
