Completed ~Fall 2014, regarding getting approvals and funds. The Dell 745's (really, really old!) and older (!)  computers are being replaced. Put on hold Dell 755's, and revisit summer 2014.

Why replace these old computers?

  • Replace before they break reduces down-time.
  • It's cheap at $400/ computer that easily lasts more than 4 years (3 years of which it's under warranty).
  • Improve the user's experience, especially as it relates to memory.
    • These systems have 2GB RAM, and upgrading these computer's RAM is surprising expensive: $60-80 to get to 4GB.
  • Can these still-working computers be used more effectively elsewhere in Physics? Who to ask? (Mark/ Vince? Nick? Others?)
