This is my first semester with AguaClara and I was on the SRSF team. We have conducted several experiments at both the pilot scale and the bench scale. I was involved in all the research this semester, like the Sand Removal, Flow Distribution, Upflow-Downflow Comparison test etc. We collected many interesting data, which proved most of our hypotheses. The research impressed me most was the Water Seal Siphon research. I helped Mickey with setting up the U-shaped pipe siphon and we were very excited to see the new siphon worked very well. I also participated in setting up our bench scale apparatus for Upflow-Downflow Comparison test and Self-healing test, which is still ongoing. I wrote a report on our Flow Distribution research. Though this semester, I learnt how to use Process Controller to control the system and how to use MathCAD to work on algorithms. Most importantly, I understand that geometry is the vital factor that can affect AguaClara plants.
