Floating Floc
Spring 2009 Minutes
February 6, 2009
Accomplishments
- Group met on Tuesday at 6:15pm
- Wrote meeting minutes
- Decided to talk with Monroe on Wednesday
Metrics
- Talked about next steps during the meeting
- Basically that we need to meet with Monroe to get the experimental set up constructed
- Reiterated the need for members to do more in depth research
- Proposed pasting links to the articles into the metrics section of the week's meeting minutes
- Went over quiz
- Tiffany met independently with Monroe on Wednesday to discuss meeting time to construct the apparatus and the logistics of putting all the parts together
- Haley and Tiffany met with Monroe on Friday to discuss the apparatus for measuring the effect of bubbles on dissolved oxygen in the water. Rough sketches were made and discussed with Paul Charles, Holister's Facilities Coordinator. He will take care of building the apparatus we designed, making sure it will be able to withstand the pressures we intend to be creating inside it. See a sketch of the future apparatus here.
- Articles:
Effects of Dissolved Gas Supersaturation and Bubble Formation on Water Treatment Plant Performance by Paolo Scardina
Water Treatment Unit Processes by David W. Hendricks
An Improved Gas-Stripping Column for Deoxygenating Water by M. Christopher Barnhart
Outcomes
- The quiz and subsequent discussion clarified some things about the project for the new members
- We will soon have the testing apparatus and table space to begin experiments
Issues
- How to get everything in place
- What we should actually test
- How to test those factors
