Library of Congress

To define the Library of Congress call number hierarchy, do the following:

  • In System Administration, go to Cat, then click the Call Number Hierarchy button.
  • Click the Add Hierarchy tab on the right. In the Hierarchy Name field, type Library of Congress. In the code field, type LC. Check the Use as default tab, and in the Call Number Type pull-down list, select Library of Congress.
  • Click on the Call Number tab, then the add button on the right. Define the hierarchy as follows by adding the following fields, indicators, and subfields:

Mapped (LC)

Used for bulk import of records in which an LC call number has been mapped into a BIB 952 field:is found in an 050 or 090 field using the location present in 952 subfield b.

  • Hierarchy Name = Mapped (LC)
  • Code = MAPPEDLC
  • Call Number Type = Library of Congress

Mapped (Non-LC)

Used for bulk import of records in which a non-LC call number has been mapped into a BIB 952 field, but can use an 852 field (Shelf ready, for example) to create exact duplicate on new MFHD during bulk import.:

  • Hierarchy Name = Mapped (Non-LC)
  • Code = MAPPED
  • Call Number Type = Other

  • Hierarchy Name = Mapped (Recon)
  • Code = MAPPEDRE
  • Call Number Type = Other
