- Some calculated parameters are not by default carried over into CFD-post. We are interested in such quantities (i.e. Mach Number). To manually transfer a customized selection of quantities
- Select File > Data File Quantities
- Under Additional Quantities, Select Static Pressure, Total Pressure, Mach Number, and Total Temperature
- Click OK.
- Post-processing will be done in CFD-post
- Go to Project Schematic in Workbench.
- Double click on Results.
- We are interested in viewing contours of Mach Number in CFD-post
- Select Insert > Contour .
- Type “Mach no” under Name in the Insert Contour dialogue box that appears.
- Click Ok.> Name > Mach No.
- Under Details of Mach noNo, select Locations > symmetry 1.
- Variable > Mach Number.
- Click Apply.
- Click on the Z Axis to view the XY Plane
- To zoom out, click on the Fit View icon in the toolbar
- To increase the Increase the number of contours to 101
- In the Outline tree, double click on Mach no.
- Under Details of Mach no, scroll down to # of Contours. Type “101”.
- Click Apply.
- To turn on the mesh in the graphics pane
- Check the box next to symmetry 1 in the Outline tree .If the mesh still does not show, right click anywhere on the flow domain in the graphic pane. Click > Click Render > Show Mesh Lines.
- We are interested in refining the mesh close to the shock. To zoom in on the mesh
- Right click and hold the right mouse button in the fluid domain in the graphics pane.
- Move the cursor to create a rectangular window to which you want to zoom.
- Click on Fit View
- Turn off the mesh by deselecting symmetry 1 in the outline tree
- To save Save a copy of the figure in the graphics pane
- Select the camera icon in the toolbar.
- Browse to the desired folder in which you wish to save the image.
- Click Save.
Pressure Contours

- Turn off the Mach Number contours in the graphics window
- Uncheck the box next to Mach no in the Outline tree.

- Type “Pressure contours” under Name in the Insert Contour dialogue box that appears.

- To increase the number of contours to 101
- Under Details of Pressure contours, scroll down to # of Contours. Type “101”.
- Click Apply.

- Insert line y = 0.4 m in CFD-post.
- Select Location > Line
- Keep “Line 1” under Name in the Insert Line dialogue box that appears.
- Click OK.
- Under Details of Velocity vectors, type Point 1 coordinates (0,0.4,0) and Point 2 coordinates (1.5,0.4,0).
- Click Apply.
- Plot Mach Number along the newly created line y = 0.4 m
- Select Insert > Chart
- Type “Mach no along Line 1” under Name in the Insert Chart dialogue box that appears.
- Click OK.
- Under Details of Mach no along Line 1, select the Data Series tab. Select Location > Line 1.
- select the X Axis tab. Select Variable > X.
- select the Y Axis tab. Select Variable > Mach Number.
- Click Apply.
- To increase the number of samples along line y = 0.4 m to 100.
- Double click on Line 1 in the Outline tree.
- Under Details of Line 1, type “100” in Samples.
- Click Apply.
