The first item on the main menu is the File menu (1.2.1). The File menu contains Exit which
is used to exit the Ares application, as well as all the processing locations available. A check
mark is placed next to the current processing location. In figure 1.2.1 the currently selected
location is "Mann Library." You may at any time select another location which will cause the
main panel, A, to refresh and display the items related to that location.

The New option (1.2) contains three options:

User: This menu item allows you to add new users to the system. Because of the way Ares
interfaces with the CUL systems this option is not used.

Class: This option allows you to add a new class to the system, and associate it with a professor
and semester. This menu option is for adding classes only; if a class needs to be
edited please see the Edit menu in the next section.

System Alerts: This option allows you to add messages that will show up through the web
interface. System Alerts can be made so that they only show to particular groups of
users, individual users or everyone logging into the system. Great care should be taken
        if this option is used.

You can also add items to a class from this menu, edit cross listings, or clone a class into
        a new one.

Edit Item: Allows you to open an individual item and edit that item's details. From this window
items can be placed in different queues, updated, or removed.

Clear Users: This option is not used due to the way Ares interfaces with CUL's system.

Print Stacks Searching Item: This option pulls any new items that have been moved to
the "Awaiting Stacks Searching" queue and opens a Microsoft Word template which
generates the pull slips. This process is covered in greater detail in
        section 9.1 Awaiting Stack Processing.

Update Stacks Searching Results: This option opens a window were you can update
status of individual items. This is covered further in section 9 Pulling Items Form The Stacks.

Check In From Instructor: This option is used to process items that are being dropped off
from a class instructor to be placed on print reserve at a reserve location. This will be
covered further in chapter 11 Processing Personal Copies.

Check In From Acquisitions: This option is used to process items that have been purchased
for a class and have arrived to the processing location from acquisitions. This
will be covered further in chapter 12 Awaiting Acquisitions Fulllment.

Batch Processing: This sub menu group is split into three sub options for the batch processing
of items arriving from different locations to the processing location. The available
        options are:

Scan Items Later - This option places items found on the shelf in a queue to be
scanned and uploaded to the Ares system at a later time. (Section 9.2.2 Items to be scanned)

Item Available On Shelf - This option places items directly into the "Item Available
at Reserve Desk" queue and makes them visible to students enrolled in that course.

In Transit to Pickup Location - This option places items that have been requested
from other libraries, back into that units "In Stack Searching" queue for later   processing by them.

Print Recall Notices: This option pulls any new items that have been moved to the "Awaiting

The Maintenance menu has a long list of options not used in day-to-day use or by the average
user. This includes setting up E-mail templates, running reports and administrative settings.
Because of the nature of these items the day-to-day user won't use these, except for:

Change Password - This option allows the currently logged-in user to change his or her  password
from the current one to a custom password. It is recommended that this be done
on one of the first times you log into Ares.
