Fall 2010 Contributions
This fall I am the team leader of the Fall 2010 Inlet Manifold Team. Our team started the semester with the goal of proving that pressure recovery exists in the manifold. We have since discovered a second important factor of the uneven flow distribution: the horizontal component of the velocity out of the ports! Our team will be using several different models to research these issues. Our semester goals include retrofiting existing AguaClara plants that have faulty manifolds and designing future manifolds to correct the problem of pressure recovery.
As well as being a contributing member of the team, as team leader I have taken on a number of more administrative duties, including:
- Scheduling team work times
- Being the final editor on the Reflection Reports, and posting them to the Wiki
- Identifying future goals and work, delegating assignments to other team members
Halfway through the semester, I constructed a model for our team called "The Caterpillar" which has since proven to be our best performing design. Ju Khuan and I compiled the results from experimentation with our various models and the documentation of that can be found here. This document helped us to determine recommendations for existing plants in Honduras.
Our team is finishing the semester by drawing up design specs to send to Honduras for retrofitting of plants in Agalteca and Marcala. Two members of my team will be going on the trip and can oversee the implementation of our designs. We are hoping to receive feedback from these retrofits so that we can provide more concrete design solutions for future plants, to be coded into the Design Tool.
