The design challenge is to create an AguaClara water treatment plant design that is 3 times larger than Marcala. We will do that by creating 2 treatment trains so that one half of the plant can be shut down for maintenance and thus each half of the plant will only be 50% larger than Marcala. We will be exploring the relative advantages of a few deep sedimentation tanks vs. more shallow sedimentation tanks. We will also be exploring the merits of an elevated platform vs. using back fill to create walkways that are high enough for the operator to access the tanks.

A series of plant designs are being created to help evaluate which configurations are optimal.
