What services can PhysIT provide to the Physics Chair which he or she would value, above and beyond what Barry provides?Barry (LASSP) provides IT consulting support for the Chair's computer. However, PhysIT provides services in Physics Admin which the Chair depends on (network, printers, monitor) so this clarification can be helpful.

Specifically, PhysIT provides Physics Admin the following services which are used by the Chair's computer:

  • The network used within the Physics Admin areas.
    • PhysIT is happy to facilitate connecting Jeevak's laptop to this network.
  • The printers used within Physics Admin areas.
    • PhysIT is happy to facilitate connecting Jeevak's laptop to these printers.
  • The Chair's Apple monitor.
    • PhysIT is happy to help in any way if their are issues with the monitor.

As of spring 2015, the current Chair is Jeevak Parpia <jmp9>.

  • Jeevak received a new Apple Macbook Air (laptop computer) this spring 2015.
    • The laptop computer was purchased with LASSP money and set up by Barry.
  • An Apple monitor was purchased with Physics Admin funds and set up by PhysIT.

PhysIT can best support Physics Admin computers which use PhysIT installed OS, using our standard procedures.

  • Any other system could theoretically be supported by PhysIT if we developed a negotiated support contract. However, such one-off systems are unlikely to be cost-effective for PhysIT to support.
