Fall 2008 Contributions
This fall I have been working on the FC Linearization and Calibration subteam. Initial research was done to acquire data for the kinematic viscocities of chlorine and alum to see if the values used for calculation are different from the actual values. I have also been involved in trouble shooting to determine the cause of experimental deviation from theoretical models. There were calculations done by previous teams and much time was spent reading and understanding these and trying to figure out what problems need to be addressed.
During the second half of the semester Zaheer and I both worked on constructing a setup for testing the outflow for the FCM in order to compare experimental values to theoretical flow values obtained using the Hagen-Pouseille equation. Our results for several different lengths of tubing reinforced results found previously while testing between the laminar and turbulent range.
While doing this, we also began testing to determine whether there was a significant difference between the actual inner diameter and the advertised inner diameter of the tubing used for dosing. Results for this were applied to the other testing.
