This fall I have been working on the FCM FC Linearization and Calibration and Research subteam. Initial research was done to acquire data for the kinematic viscocity viscocities of chlorine and alum to see if the values used for calculation are different from those tabulatedthe actual values. I have also been involved in trouble shooting to determine the cause of experimental deviation from theoretical models. We think this is mainly from minor headloss that was neglected in the original calculations. One source of this is variation in the inner diameter of plastic tubing so tests are being done to find the exact inner diameter. Work is also being done to set up a replication of the system used in Honduras to reproduce data collected there and to create a consistent method for designing Flow Control Modules to meet a desired flow rateThere were calculations done by previous teams and much time was spent reading and understanding these and trying to figure out what problems need to be addressed.

During the second half of the semester Zaheer and I both worked on constructing a setup for testing the outflow for the FCM in order to compare experimental values to theoretical flow values obtained using the Hagen-Pouseille equation. Our results for several different lengths of tubing reinforced results found previously while testing between the laminar and turbulent range.

While doing this, we also began testing to determine whether there was a significant difference between the actual inner diameter and the advertised inner diameter of the tubing used for dosing. Results for this were applied to the other testing.
