Net Zero Building Energy Efficiency & Modeling for CornellNYC Cornell/NYC Tech campus

The first Academic Building on CornellNYC Cornell/NYC Tech campus will be Net Zero Energy. EERL will review and evaluate various design options developed by the contracted architect form and the engineering form. Then our team will provide Cornell decision makers with recommendations on which options to adopt or propose new designs. Essentially, our team will follow the processes professionals design commercial buildings. Furthermore, our team will be able to influence the how the Academic Building is designed at each critical stage through recommendations. The tasks include: Analyzing the energy demand of the first Academic Building based on occupancy and space program; Improving the building performance by recommending energy efficient design measures; Collaborating on the review and evaluation of energy modeling conducted by ARUP, a consulting company (key task). The goal is to create the lowest energy demand appropriate for building programthe engineering form. Students will work closely with professional engineers at ARUP and Cornell Energy and Sustainability Office. The recommendations from this project will be considered to be implemented in the Academic Buildingarchitects, and can potentially participate directly in the design exercises held by the architect and the engineering forms.
