Summer 2009 Contributions
The I am working on the Plate Settler Spacing team has . This summer, we are working with a tube settler of an ideal geometry, as determined by the Spring 2009 team, and subjecting it to non-ideal conditions. We have worked on essentially every experiment together, in terms or of setting it up and monitoring its progress. In addition, I have analyzed data and created a couple of the graphs as well as worked with two other team members to put the Midterm Wiki together (finishing graphs, writing methods and conclusions, and putting everything up on the site). I also worked on the teach-in presentation, goals, and research planthrough graphing the changing effluent turbidity according to the conditions we have set, and worked with the other team members to interpret the data.
In total, we tested five different alum dosages, graphed all the data, and drew conclusions from the results that we got. Using MathCAD, we made initial calculations to research velocity gradients and set up a preliminary experiment to test this. I have also worked on beginning fundraising to build a new plant in Agalteca.
