Sand Filter
Accomplishments
- Ran four tests: without sand, sand at 50mL/min, sand at 100mL/min, and sand at 200mL/min
- Add more references in the Annotated Bibliography
Metrics
- Analyze the collected data with Excel. These initial data are not reliable due the varying flow rate and DO readings.
- Overall, the data show that the inflow DO is lower than the outflow DO.
- The present of the sand filter does not reveal dramatic differences between the filter with and without the sand.
Outcomes
- Final drawing of the experimental setup is done.
- For a potential solution to the inconsistent flow rate, we added a Bell & Gossett pressure reducing valves.
- Since the DO probe are not reading the DO concentration in the water, we decide to apply another way to measure the DO concentration by using the air volume and the flow rate. We will calculate the DO concentration with Mathcad.
Issues
- DO read that the initial DO is lower than the outflow DO for all experiments.
- When the setup starts to run, the inflow DO is too low (as low as 4 mg/L).
- Despite the recalibration of both DO probe, the DO reading still remain incorrect.
- An attempt to fix the DO probe reading: we switch the orginal inflow DO probe with another DO probe.
- The flow rate of the setup is not consistent.
Any Overall Team Comments:
- Great work.
Metrics
- Quantitative and qualitative results from accomplishments and outcomes.
- Potential metrics for unresolved issues.
Outcomes
- A summary of resolutions based on what was accomplished.
- New directions and ideas that result from these resolutions.
Issues
- Difficult and unresolved issues
- Plans for action
