Ji Young Kim's Individual Contribution Page

Current Semester Contributions

I am Ji Young Kim, an Environmental Engineering in CEE from Seoul, Korea.

Summer 2014 Contributions

During the summer of 2014, I was a member of the Foam Filtration Team. Our team polished up the structural design of the foam filtration system, added the linear flow orifice meter (LFOM), and verified the safety of the polyurethane foam as the filter. We Also, we devised and fabricated a lever arm to replace compress system with a pulley and enable more efficient backwash of foam filter. A pilot station was built in Honduras this January. Now, I am working in Village Supply System team. Our sub team is mainly focusing on distribution system in a village. We are aiming to come up with generalized algorithm for small villages with varying conditions such as population, climate, water resource, and power source. Since there are too many variables to take into account, I expect this semester to be challenging, but I am also excited to work with my teammates and new subject.

Spring 2015 Contributions

This semester, I am participating in Stacked Rapid Sand Filtration Flow Injection and Extraction (FInE) Team. Primary goal is to design new inlet and outlet pipes for the stacked rapid sand filter in order to replace current prone-to-clog slotted pipes. New design will be tested in the lab to find out more optimal specifications. After the team decides on the final design, new pipes will be installed in the setups of other AguaClara subteams in order to evaluate its functionality.
