*{+}Background:+* _Salmonella enterica_ subsp. _enterica_ serovar Montevideo (antigenic formula 6,7,14:g,m,\[p\],s:\[1,2,7\]) is a serovar of the O:7 (C{~}1~) serogroup. This serovar is the sixth most common serovar in the U.S. in humans and animals. _S._ Montevideo is among the serovars commonly isolated from animals. Lately, some of the outbreaks linked to this serovar have been associated with imported spices. Whole genome sequencing of a number of _S._ Montevideo strains have been conducted, including an study that identified two large plasmidplasmids encoding antimicrobial and heavy metal resistance genes. |
