Chemical Dose Controller (CDC/LFOM)

The Chemical Dose Controller is a critical piece of the AguaClara technology which couples the plant flow rate with the flow rate of the coagulant or disinfectant stock solution. The result is a semi-automated system in which the plant operator only needs to set a dose for the chemical and it will be administered automatically as the plant flow rate varies. The system has evolved steadily with major advances every year. The ability to accurately and predictably control the alum and chlorine dosages without electricity sets AguaClara apart from other water treatment technologies.

Spring 2012: The Chemical Dose Controller team is working on constructing a device which will use three lever arms with separate dose sliders that can be set by the plant operator. Using the information collected in semesters past regarding controlling and correcting for minor losses, we are testing appropriate setups including a Tee design connected to the drop tubes in order to accomodate the necessary flows of the two doses of coagulant and dose of chlorine. We are researching the parts necessary with the goal of finding locally available alternatives. Another objective is documenting the working design so that it can be reproduced on site.
