My major task for this semester is was to build a business plan for Viamericas , so that AguaClara can have a lasting partnership with a corporation. Since I don't have much business background, I will spend spent 2-3 weeks to understand understanding how to successfully write a business plan proposal. To do so, I will attend a workshop: Building Better Business Plans offered by Johnson School on Feb. 10th
Comment: The workshop wasn't exactly what I needed and didn't provide much information. It was mainly how to build a business plan for entrepreneur.
I met with Will and Alex With collaboration from two other outreach members, Will and Alex, we have met to discuss our ideas for Viamericas After the discussion, I have devised made a powerpoint presentation and received comments from AguaClara Engineers abroad and Monroe. I reflected those comments and attached the several versions of my powerpoint presentation in this page.. The final version of the Viamericas presentation is attached under Presentations.
A week before the spring break, Will and I followed up on the initial contact made by Alex in the December 2009, which lead to a discussion with the CEO of the company, Paul Dwyer, over the phone. His response was very positive and thus the contact was handed over to Dan Smith, current AE AguaClara Engineer in HoudurasHonduras. He had answered the questions that I couldn't fully answer for Paul and he will have a face-to-face meeting with Paul when he visits DC during May.
- Partnership with Potencia
The CEO of Potencia, a company that manufactures a unique energy drink with spirits of Latin America, is was born in Honduras so I believed the company can be another good prospect to pursue for pursuing long-term partnership. I sent her an email but never got a response back. Potential A potential project for future outreach team teams can be to research the best method in for promoting AguaClara to Corporationscorporations.
- Promoting for AguaClara benefit concert
I have helped to promote the AguaClara benefit concert by quaterquarter-carding on Ho Plaza and spreading the word about the concert.
- Researching for Grants
I have looked into the grant database in Outreach Resource Grant Database on the Outreach Resources page and I believe there are a lot of work needs to be done. For example, I have researched deeply on Ford Foundation grant but apparently previous Outreach member had already done the same thing and decided not to submit an inquiry since their objectives did not align with ours. Thus, for one of the challenge of fall 2010 outreach team, one should be in charge of going through wiki page by page to eliminate incorrect information or to update to the current date.
