In the Fall '09, I worked on the Design Team and have been developing an algorithm to size orifices to rapid mix.  I have almost finished developing an algorithm that will size the orifices of rapid mix.  The functions that will be used to size those orifices are completed.  These orifices were sized based on the new configuration where the micro mixing orifices would be before the pipe bend.  This would allow for a greater facility of removal.  The macro mixing orifices were sized based on our initial assumption of having a minor loss coefficient K of 1.3 and the equations for minor loss coefficient for submerged orifices.  The micro mixing orifice was sized to have head loss ratios of 20-50 cm.  They would be located 2 pipe diameters downstream of the macro mixing orifice.  I am currently assuming these orifices to be circular. There is still a problem.  For each pipe size selected, the current algorithm has one orifice size in the case of micro mixing.  This of course results in an increased head loss as the flow rate through that orifice increases.  I am currently looking for ways to make this algorithm more robust and have negligible head loss through the macro mixing orifice.  Aside from that, this code is ready to be coded onto an AutoCADD image.
