ENGRD 1050 Presentations

Presentations are made to Throughout the Fall semester, AguaClara gives presentations in the Intro to Engineering 1050 classes for Freshmen throughout the fall semester. The purpose of these presentations is to get new students interested in joining the project. You will likely be contacted by professors, faculty-advisors, or peer-advisors to set these up.  In general, it is recommended that two AguaClara team members conduct these presentations; if two Outreach team members are not available, utilize the AguaClara listserve to contact a replacement.  One member (or both members, to be safe) should bring a flash-drive (or a laptop, if a computer is not available) that contains a copy of the chosen PowerPoint presentation.  A typical presentation consists of: a) PowerPoint presentation, b) explanation of the demo plant, and c) the AguaClara in Honduras slideshow (optional).

There are a few options for these presentations:

1)  Present in the 1050 classroom.

These classes are typically held in small lecture-style classrooms throughout the Engineering Quad.  If the room has a projector and a few tables, as well as a nearby bathroom (for obtaining water for the demo plant and cleanup), it will probably be sufficient.  An important thing to keep in mind, however, is that the demo plant will take some time to set up.  Make sure that the room will be empty and at your disposal for at least 30 minutes before you are scheduled to present.

2) Present in the 1050 classroom and the AguaClara lab.

With this option, the PowerPoint portion of the  presentation will take place in the 1050 classroom.

Depending on the arrangements made with the Professor, the presentation can first be given in the students' classroom and then walk the students down to the lab to see the demo plant. Alternately the entire presentation can be given in the lab. If the presentation is in the lab you will want to check out a projector from the library. Make sure you have enough time to get one from say, Mann if the one in Engineering is checked out. At either location you will want to bring a laptop in case the class does not have one you can use. It would also be wise to send reminder e-mails to the professor and the students giving the presentation before hand, and follow up afterward to see how it went.
