Modeling the wake interactions of wind turbines on different terrains
Contact: Dr. Yan Wang, yw365@cornell.edu

CFD modeling has been widely used in wind turbine analysis and can be used to determine the design parameters and wind farm optimization. CFD has the advantages of capturing the turbulent flow characteristics through the wind turbine, which are also affected by complicated terrain where the turbines are mounted on.

Objective:
1. Simulating the 3D wind turbine (with rotating airfoil).
2. Estimating the dynamic electricity output with varying ambient wind speed.
3. Optimizing a small wind farm, which consists of multiple wind turbines within a close space.

Software: ANSYS FLUENT 14.0, available in the Swanson Lab
