The Sciencenter is a hands-on science museum with the mission:  “To inspire excitement for science through interactive exhibits and programs that engage, educate, and empower.”  The museum hosts 100,000 people each year from Ithaca and around the world and has strong program ties to many departments of Cornell.  The project involves designing, prototype testing, and fabricating a new, outdoor, interactive exhibit for the Sciencenter - a device that continuously aims a sighting tube at the Moon, 24-7.  Considerations include durability, safety, reliability, and user experience.
The project calls for two or more MEng or upper level undergraduate students, working through the Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 semesters.  Preference will be given to groups applying together.  Required skills include design and manufacturing experience and computer control of mechanical actuators.  Applicants should send their CVs, unofficial transcripts, and a brief statement of their relevant experience to Prof. Dmitry Savransky (ds264@cornell.edu).
