Objective: To optimize the operations of thermal energy storage in building systems to reduce the energy costs and provide demand response services

Background: Our group has conducted a series of studies investigating how to operate thermal energy storage in a building under dynamic pricing of electricity or to provide power systems services. The results demonstrate great potential to make thermal energy storage "smarter".

Scope of Work: MEng students will learn building energy simulations, conduct quantitative engineering and economic analysis on thermal energy storage, and revise several manuscripts in progress. There is a good opportunity for MEng students to be co-authored in journal publications.
