Project Title: New Applicators for Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation

Sponsor(s): Enura.com

A new treatment for Migraine headaches is now available in the UK and
will soon be approved in the US.  The Spring TMS device (eNeura.com)
delivers a 1 tesla magnetic pulse in 180 ms 2 cm into the base of the
brain resetting it and curing Migraine Headache without drugs and with
no side effects whatsoever.  See attached Lancet article.  The current
device is somewhat large and heavy.  A more ergonomic shape needs to be
prototyped (perhaps 3 different shapes) to be Market tested with exiting
Spring TMS patients in England.  The best shape would then be made into
a fully functional prototype in the spring of 2014 including if possible
data communication with a central server.  A more detailed description
with some early shape concepts will be available by Sept 5.  The student
team for this should include at least one student with 3D CAD experience
and one student with circuit board layout and prototyping experience.
The company will fly the team to London for the patient shape survey.
The final prototype and report will provide the input for the eNeura's
next generation device.
Industry mentor/advisor on this project will be

  5. Is this a Team project (Y) How many students __3____?
  6. What background should student have: ME, ECE, BME

Please indicate the relevant technological field(s) in order to help the student understand where they will develop expertise.
1)Mechanical design in Solid Works or equivalent.
2) Fabrication by 3D printing or equivalent.
3) Bluetooth interface
4) Circuit measurements, testing.
5) Molding, extrusion, or related.

Criteria for success or key milestones

  1. Develop calculations and estimates for flow improvement.
  2. Assess fabrications schemes for prototyping catheters.
  3. Develop computer model of flow, and optimize catheter design.
  4. Complete final report and supply pre-clinical prototypes.

Other relevant materials or resources needed for the project.

Background literature, devices will be supplied, and Enura.com engineers will collaborate.
Experience with Solidworks, Circuit Design, and Ansys or equivalent modeling software, circuit testing useful.
