NASA, along with other space agencies and private companies is currently working on developing technologies for asteroid mining and other methods of in-situ resource utilization.  We are interested in developing a modeling framework to help determine whether useful materials can be more easily accessed from asteroids via controlled impacts.  This project will involve independent research on existing asteroid composition and fragmentation models, and implementation of a computer model to simulate asteroid impacts.  This project requires a strong background in dynamics and mechanics of materials along with good coding ability.
