Project: Micro Electro-Mechanical Actuators Laboratory of Intelligent Machine Systems
MEng student wanted for design and prototyping of nanoscale magnetic field actuators based on piezoelectric and magnetostrictive materials. Potential applications include optical displays (shutters/mirrors), adaptive optics, and microfluidics (pumps/valves). Design work may involve both static and dynamic finite element models of complex elastic MEMS structures, and actuator simulations using multiphysics packages such as COMSOL. Prototyping and testing will require working with the Cornell Nano-Scale Science and Technology Facility (CNF). Experience with finite element analysis (ANSYS) is preferred. Recommended to take MAE/ECE 4320 MicroElectro Mechanical Systems, Fall 2012.
