2-3 students

Project Duration: 1 semester

Introduction
Bone is an inhomogeneous biological composite and therefore has complicated failure processes. In our laboratory we have developed a technique to acquire three-dimensional images of bone and microscopic cracks and other damage in bone tissue to understand how cancellous bone fails.

Description
In this project the student will write software (in Matlab or C/C++) to process the three-dimensional images and perform data analysis. The student will develop key skills in image processing and analysis and will also learn about mechanical failure of biomaterials.
