Hi all!
I’m Christina Chaplin, a senior Fine Art major concentrating in photography and painting.  I was born and raised in northern Illinois, but currently call the New Jersey shore home as my parents moved there a few years ago.

I have always loved and participated in the physical making of art, but this involvement (unfortunately) doesn’t come with a built-in knowledge of how art gets sold, transported, and valued around the world.  Traveling abroad to Rome last spring, I interned at acontemporary gallery and very quickly learned how much I DIDN’T know about the art market and how it really functions.  I’m excited now to get some new insights and perspective into my experiences in Rome and the Venice Biennale

I was able to actively engage in the art market last summer while on a trip to Berlin.  I bought my very first painting... a work by artist Christoph Loeffler, his name is Patrick.  Also, as a graduating senior being launched into the scary “real world”, it seems pertinent that I take some time in school to learn about both sides of what I do… from the artist and the art dealer alike.

Happy to meet you all!

Christina, "the sister I never had"..... I am very glad that at least I am not the only one who has realized there is not much studies on what happens in the art market to coming artists/students. I am very excited about this class.
